A blueprint usually refers to the replication of a technical drawing on paper or the documentation of some engineering design or architectural planning, But nowadays “blueprint” is used as a term to describe any form of detailed planning. Usually paper is preferred as the medium for a base material but sometimes linen is also used. But the problem with linen is that over time it has tendency to shrink. To tackle this problem imitation vellum was printed on and sometimes even polyester film. The most recent technological developments have to do with advanced blueprint software.

Blueprint was first implemented by a chemist from France, known as Alphonse Louis Poitevin in the year 1861 that suggested and proved that coatings of certain chemicals on bases like paper and other materials may be utilized to regenerate an image from a semi transparent document. Substances like ferro-gallate, which is sensitive to light when it is in gum is one such chemical, which the Chemist found helpful.

What we end up getting is a replica of the original but with a cleared background, which is, kind of semi blackish blue in color and the picture or the image comes as a white line but the advantage is the stability of the image. To enhance the quality of these images, substances such as potassium ferricyanide were used in combination with ammonium ferric citrate. The result of this process was a bluish compound. This process was known as cyanotype. At the end of the process, the excess of these elements are washed away. People who are engaged in engineering designs and architectural work nowadays use cartridge paper. These images can later be copied using tracing paper and Indian ink.

Now to formally define blueprint software, we would say that it the result of a blueprinting process using software where the word “blueprint” conveys it traditional meaning. Hence any Blueprint software has certain requirements to suit and adjust with its building counterpart. In modern times, this technology is majorly used in xerography. A more modern and updated version of this technology is the present day scanner. Now the output from the blueprint software should have a few characteristics. Such as they should be easy to navigate and understand and mistakes should be found very easily. It should also be able to handle complex images.

The main objective of the blueprint software is to make the image as clean and as navigable as possible by the usage of a description medium optimally. As blueprint software has evolved from time to time the gadgets required to enhance the final product have also undergone continuous evolution. Software used for blueprinting, or blueprint software being the primary tool. Blueprint software can help enhance an image line such a way that its navigation becomes hassle free. Traditional methods of depicting engineering or architectural images are prone to fallacies and other hassles, which software can easily overcome. The objective being to reproduce images in such a way that they are mistake free, on preferable medium and easily navigable can only be met by the usage of blueprint software enhanced and developed to meet user requirements.
